Christmas is a wonderful time of the year and decorations can make your house feel like a welcoming place with a pinch of magic! Every year, we make resolutions that are bound to change our lives. Well, this year, let’s just focus on staying healthy and what really matters.
Happiness is always found among the simplest and smallest of things, so let’s turn your home into a mini festival of joy this year, with cheap, yet adorable, décor ideas that will instantly infuse warmth and predispose for loving moments with the ones you love.
In this brief piece, we will show you decoration ideas for both traditional Xmas decorations (with a contemporary twist) and modern minimalist styles.
1. Less is More!
If you are a fan of traditional decoration style, then you know that Christmas has no charm and magic without some reds and greens! However, you can look at Xmas design from a different angle and transform your home for the holidays with fewer decorative elements that have a strong presence!
The whole point this year is to bring lightness and brightness into the home with decorative pieces that do exactly that without shouting out loud!
2. Modern Christmas Decoration Ideas in Silver and Blue
Even if Christmas decorations represent traditional symbols, they need to be creative and, of course, original. This means that you are free to be imaginative and creative. Just allow yourself to improvise and see what happens!
For example, minimalism is mainly represented by white, so decorating your home in white is not only trendy but will also make it look gorgeously stunning, as long as you keep other elements to the minimum.
Another winning combination is silver combined with white or blue. It is a stylish option and definitely modern. Not to mention that it looks elegant and classy, perfect for every home that follows modern decoration schemes.
Now, if you want to add sparkle and glitter to your home, use modern LED lights, and you will spruce up your Xmas décor instantly.
Being in a good mood, spending time with your loved ones sitting by the tree, and a lovely home is all you need this Christmas, don’t you?
3. Oh, Christmas Tree!
The Xmas tree is the most important decorative item in the festive season. Without it, it just doesn’t feel like Christmas at all. Besides the time you need to devote to decorating it in an elegant and catchy way, it is also the centrepiece of your home, so it deserves all the attention.
This year, bring garlands of fairy or white lights and embellish them. As mentioned before, white is a dominant colour this year, although you can freely choose any colour of your liking. On your Christmas tree, it will seem as if the tree is covered with snow, so plain and simple, yet so fabulous! Finish the look by wrapping the garlands around it (always in a spiral way).
Although hanging ornaments starts from the bottom of the Christmas tree (in a zig-zag fashion), wrapping garlands starts from the top (and you just work your way to the bottom). Silver also gives the snow effect.
The balls and ornaments you choose have to be medium-sized. As for the colour, it can be anything you like, with yellow and red being the most used (and catchiest), though.
After hanging your ornaments and balls, you will notice some empty spaces. Fill those gaps with other small decorations to give your tree a stunning look.
Don’t leave spaces, such as the windows, fireplace, tables, doors, and staircase, empty. They can be decorated, too!
There is no need to purchase a natural tree. With such a wide variety of artificial Christmas trees in different sizes, you can pick the one that is perfect for your space and also keep it for next year (and the next few years)!
4. Grand Entrance!
If you are this year’s host, why not focus on making your entryway head-turning? Give your stairwell a wow-worthy first impression by just adding seasonal flair (i.e. a lush, green garland with pinecones and ornaments)!
5. Make the Xmas tree, the Focal Point of the Room!
You can easily capture a picture-perfect moment and make your Christmas tree the star of the holidays if you line gifts around its base. Make sure the wrap treatment is minimal, consistent, and, of course, monochromatic (if the wrapping is white, ribbons the shade of red or pink will steal the show!)
6. Make Your Own Ornaments For Your Christmas Décor!
No, you won’t have to spend a fortune on decorative items and ornaments to decorate your Christmas tree and the inside of the house. You can quickly create some pretty fantastic pieces using materials such as paper, wood, and cloth. Here are some from which to draw inspiration!
Honeycomb wreath

Mailing tubes, paper towel, and wrapping paper can become great Christmas decorative items.
- Use an X-Acto knife and cut each tube into slices (2inch wide will do).
- Then, lay a 6-inch (across) bowl on a flat surface and arrange the slices around it (see the picture).
- Hot-glue where the sides of the slices meet and voila! A Front-door-worthy piece. Now, if you wish, you can also perch jingle bells inside!
Glass made Super Ornament

Get empty orbs (at around a dollar each) and fill each one with anything you can think of, from a stunning peacock feather and small wooden chips to a model fir tree dusted with artificial snow!
You can also hot-glue a small cardinal in place or even position branches inside (using tweezers)!
Pinecones

Just take pinecones and spray-paint them white. They will really pop against the evergreen boughs! You can do the exact same thing with keys.
Coat skeleton keys wit glossy white spray paint and they will instantly give your Christmas tree a lovely flair.

It is amazing how seasonal berry wreaths and votive candles can transform a plain white mantel into a cozy and warm spot!
